Stage 35: Blackpool Soundwaves

Stage 35 sees the Beacon travel from a  joint celebration between Mersey Harmony and Mountain Harmony with a couple of Club At Large members in Liverpool to a joint celebration between Blackpool Soundwaves and Mersey Harmony in Blackpool.

Here’s what Blackpool Soundwaves had to say about their Beacon of Harmony event:

The #LABBS16 Beacon of Harmony Scroll arrived safely in Blackpool courtesy of our visitors from Mersey Harmony. The evening was electric in more than one sense of the word, as Mersey Harmony’s coach navigated the Illuminations traffic.

Around 28 ladies filed into Marton Institute to join us at our wonderful LABBS get together event. We welcomed each other like old friends. It was plain to see what a great bunch of ladies Mersey Harmony and Soundwaves are.

The hall was decorated with banners and bunting and on arrival everyone they remarked on how nice our venue looked.

After speeches and welcoming our Mayor and Mayoress, the scroll was signed by Christine Fitton the head of our music team at Soundwaves and Jane White – Soundwaves P.R.O.

Photographs were taken by Jane our P.R.O and our marvellous cake, made for us by local firm Cake Tin Delights was cut.

There was thunderous applause when the Mayor addressed everyone and was presented with a lovely posy of flowers.
Everyone settled down to be entertained firstly by Soundwaves singing 59th Bridge Street Song and One Fine Day.

The bar area was in full flow as Mersey Harmony then entertained the room with some of their wonderful songs such as Moon River and  we all joined in with their last song “That’s What Friends are For”.

As the time flew by our special LABBS quiz questions were handed out and over the drinking and chattering the groups of 5 were pondering about the answers.
As the answers of the Quiz were read out, everyone congratulated each other on how good the Quiz had been. Everyone that didn’t do so well with the Quiz got a stick of Blackpool Rock , our second place tables got tea towels with the famous Blackpool Tower on and our first prize was a Non Perishable Hamper by local Restaurant and shop Dahlias Farm .

As the fish and chips arrived from “The Cottage ” everyone tucked in and savoured every last chip!  After our supper there was just time Jane, Soundwaves P.R.O to hand round the magnet keepsakes she had made for the evening

Before we knew it the evening was over at The Marton Institute and it was with a warm heart and a cheerful grin we bid farewell and waved off our fellow Barbershopers Mersey Harmony.
