Stage 27: River City Chorus

Stage 27 sees the Beacon of Harmony travel from Bournemouth and the exchange between Wessex Harmony, Coast to Coast and River City, on to Exeter for a big celebration with River City, Yours in Harmony, The Chordettes and Red Rock chorus

Here’s what River City Chorus had to say about their time with the Beacon:

rivercity

June 18th saw a contingent from River City Chorus travelling to Bournemouth to joyfully accept the Beacon of Harmony from Coast to Coast and sing with them in the Ladies Choir Section of Bournemouth Music Festival.

The following Saturday, 25th June, we invited 3 other Devon Choruses to join with us to sing probably the best Polecat ever, Bohemian Rhapsody, as a Flash Mob in Exeter’s Princesshay shopping centre.

At 1:15pm ladies from River City, Yours in Harmony, Chordettes and Red Rock choruses converged outside Exeter Central Station to practice before the main event, led by our amazing MD, Carole Locke. This drew quite an audience in itself with one passer-by even missing her train to watch and listen.

At 2:30pm around 100 women from all over Devon (& Somerset) came together outside Debenhams and the singing began drawing a large crowd and much interest from Exeter’s shoppers and Diners, including the lady mentioned above, who decided the stay a little longer to watch us in full swing, before catching a much later train home.

The Beacon of Harmony handover to Yours in Harmony, was to be completed on the Cathedral Green with the iconic Exeter Cathedral as the backdrop but before this could be done the ladies of all 4 choruses were so excited and uplifted by singing Bohemian Rhapsody they did it all again outside the Cathedral.

The Beacon was finally signed and handed over with each of us enjoying a slice of cake of course!!

Not one of us wanted the day to end as we all met new people and made new friendships and are already looking forward to more joint harmonious events.

So thank you LABBS for bringing us all together and thank you to all the individual chorus members who worked so hard to make this such a success.

Thank you River City Chorus!
