Stage 21: The Arun Sounds

Stage 21 sees the Beacon of Harmony travel from a joint celebration in Woodley, Berkshire with The Barberettes and Arun Sounds to a special celebratory evening of Jive and singing with the Arun Sounds in Bognor Regis, West Sussex.

Here’s what the Arun Sounds had to say about their time with the Beacon:

When the ladies of the Arun Sounds committee realised we would be receiving the Beacon of Harmony in the very week the chorus would turn 35 we knew we had to do something a bit special.

So our MD Madeleine Branson came up with the idea of a Jive night – and what a night it turned out to be!

We were joined on a beautiful sunny evening by our great friend and regional rep Jacqui Edwards, our new friend Deborah Lamble, Labbs Vice Chair on her first official engagement; with of course Dyrck Lamble. The Spirit of the South Chorus who were collecting the Beacon sent 6 members to join us, as well as many past members family and friends.

The evening started with a fabulous jive demonstration from a professional teacher which lead into most of us taking to the floor to learn some moves. We stood in two lines men facing the women and practiced a very tricky *basic* step, then just as we were getting the hang of it the women had to move on to the net man in the line! It was hilarious and a very fun way of getting to know all of your guests!

Half way through the evening, The Arun Sounds and all of our Labbs guests sang the 40th anniversary tag and, after it had been signed by our founder MD June Bryant and our current MD Madeleine Branson, handed the Beacon over to Spirit of the South.

This was followed by Cheese and Pate ploughmans for 100 people! That’s a lot of cheese……..! Swiftly followed by of course cake, our birthday cake, the Labbs birthday cake and more gateaux than Betty’s in Harrogatte!

After all that food, The Arun Sounds took to the floor and Sang some of our current Favourite songs: Hallelujah, One fine day. and our 2 songs arranged by the wonderful Liz Garnet …”Feeling good” with our very first outing of “You’re my world”

It was a fabulous night, and a total privilege to host the Beacon and our wonderful guests, see you all at convention!

Thank you The Arun Sounds! To submit your choruses write up for the Beacon of Harmony Blog, please send you write up with photos attached separately to
